West Virginia Breast Health Initiative, Inc. (WVBHI) is proud to announce that the Misty Bennett’s Seeds of Hope Fund is a recipient of a $40,000.00 Grant from the Highmark West Virginia Charitable Fund for Health. The purpose of the grant is to help fulfill WVBHI’s mission by providing support for breast cancer detection services including mammograms and other diagnostics; transportation support to and from breast health treatments; and other educational resources for more vulnerable, under-served and minority-based West Virginia communities.
Misty Bennett, who lost her life to breast cancer in March 2018, was one of the founding members of WVBHI and was a wonderful and compassionate person who always thought about others first. Part of her legacy with the WVBHI is through a program called Misty Bennett’s Seeds of Hope – a program designed to give charitable contributions to local community organizations throughout West Virginia that can then work in those areas to provide mammograms and other services to uninsured or underinsured.
“There is such a need to help provide appropriate care and medical testing to those in the most need, and the West Virginia Breast Health Initiative works towards this goal in its Misty Bennett Seeds of Hope program. Highmark is proud to support this program through the West Virginia Charitable Fund for Health,” said Jim Fawcett, President of Highmark West Virginia.
WVBHI’s Charitable Giving Chair, Dan Snuffer, stated, “Highmark West Virginia has a special place in their heart for West Virginia and the underinsured and uninsured communities that are most impacted by breast cancer. They realize the importance of giving back and that early detection is the key to saving lives. I’m proud to have them as a partner with WVBHI and look forward to working together in the future to bring mammograms and other diagnostic services to West Virginia communities most in need. I can’t think of a better way to kick off the October Rock-It for the Ribbon October Challenge.”
This Saturday at 1pm, there will be a check presentation at Bream Presbyterian Church located at 317 W. Washington Street, as WVBHI kicks off their October Rock-it for the Ribbon October Challenge.
