May was a busy month for air travel at West Virginia International Yeager Airport (CRW), with Memorial Day kicking off the start of summer travel and significantly boosting passenger traffic. The airport experienced a record month for enplaned passengers, with a total of 19,606 boarding aircraft. Overall, more than 38,735 travelers passed through the airport last month, surpassing May 2023 by 21%, making it one of the busiest months at CRW since 2019. Total airport operations were also up by 11.6%.
CRW’s newest air carrier, Breeze Airways, also began seasonal nonstop service to Myrtle Beach, SC, and BreezeThru service to Tampa, FL, in May. Those flights are available on Fridays and Mondays through September 2, 2024. Additionally, Breeze continues to offer flights to Orlando, FL, three times weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. As passenger traffic continues to increase, CRW is in the process of developing a terminal renovation concept to improve the aging terminal and passenger facilities. Enhancements include the three new mainline gates, new security checkpoint, updated concessions, new baggage belt and restroom renovations. All of these will improve ADA compliance and the overall passenger experience at CRW.
“We are thrilled to witness the ongoing growth in passenger traffic at CRW,” says Airport Director and CEO Dominique Ranieri. “The introduction of new routes, combined with our plans to modernize and enhance our terminal facilities, is setting CRW apart as the airport of choice for travelers looking for both convenience and connectivity. Our commitment to improving the passenger experience is unwavering, and we look forward to welcoming even more travelers to our airport.”
