In this role, Dalton will serve as the chief financial officer for the university and be responsible for the management of university-wide financial functions including budgeting, construction, auxiliary activities and procurement as well as investment and asset management.
Dalton most recently served as the chief financial officer for West Virginia University Institute of Technology (WVU-Tech) in Beckley, a position she held since 2014. In that role, Dalton oversaw the multi-year campus transition to Beckley and provided leadership and general management of all financial related services within an annual university budget of more than $28 million.
“I am delighted that Christina will be joining the leadership team of West Virginia State,” said WVSU President Dr. Nicole Pride. “Her proven track record as a leader in higher education finance administration will be a tremendous asset to the university.”
At WVU-Tech, Dalton collaborated with the campus provost and deans on a financial viability and breakeven analysis for four new academic programs to drive growth; implemented spending controls tied to enrollment that reduced operating expenses by 17 percent; and coordinated with the director of development to solicit private donations that subsidized scholarship funding and academic programming.
Prior to her role at WVU-Tech, Dalton served as an accountant, assistant financial controller and controller for the West Virginia Office of the Attorney General from 2006 through 2014.
She serves on the board of directors for Generation West Virginia as well on the Charleston Council for Outreach and Empowerment through the city of Charleston Mayor’s Office. She was recognized in 2016 with the statewide West Virginia Wonder Woman award and in 2017 was recognized by The State Journal as part of Generation Next, recognizing business leaders under 40.
Dalton has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from WVSU and a master’s degree in business administration from Marshall University.
