West Virginia State University (WVSU) has become the first college in West Virginia to earn accreditation from the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP) for its Yellow Jacket Connection dual credit program.
Through the Yellow Jacket Connection program high school students at participating schools are able to earn college credit by taking courses at their schools taught by qualified instructors.
NACEP announced the program’s accreditation today.
“This is a tremendous honor for our program, and one that we hope will lead to even more high school students taking part in the Yellow Jacket Connection,” said WVSU President Anthony L. Jenkins. “To be the only program in the state accredited by the NACEP shows the importance we place in adhering to the highest standards for all of our students taking classes from West Virginia State University.”
Concurrent and dual enrollment partnerships provide high school students the opportunity to take college credit-bearing courses. Called concurrent enrollment when taught by college-approved high school teachers, concurrent and dual enrollment partnerships successfully transition students from high school to college.
As the national accrediting body for concurrent enrollment partnerships, NACEP helps programs adhere to the high standards so students experience a seamless transition to college and teacher benefit from meaningful, ongoing professional development.
The 2017-18 Chair of NACEP’s Accreditation Commission Victoria Zeppelin of Tompkins Cortland Community College said, “I’m very pleased to recognize the Yellow Jacket Connection Program at West Virginia State University as one of a select group of 107 concurrent enrollment partnerships nationwide accredited through NACEP’s extensive peer-review process. West Virginia State University has demonstrated to its peers that the college courses it offers in high schools are of the same high quality as college courses offered on campus.”
NACEP is a professional membership organization supporting programs that offer college courses to high school students. NACEP’s national network of 450 colleges and universities, 70 high schools and school districts and 30 state agencies and system offices actively share the latest knowledge about best practices, research and advocacy.
