A variety of Kanawha County business and civic leaders will be featured at the first West Virginia State University (WVSU) College of Business and Social Sciences Business and Economic Summit March 2-3.
With the theme of “Connecting West Virginia’s Future Business Leaders to the Marketplace,” the summit will take place each day from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Erickson Alumni Center on WVSU’s Institute campus. The event is free and open to the public.
“This summit provides the opportunity for West Virginia State students to benefit from experienced business men and women in the community,” says Dr. David Bejou, dean of the College of Business and Social Sciences. “A variety of backgrounds will be represented, including banking, insurance, energy, communications, wealth management, nonprofits and government.”
The summit will begin Wednesday at 11 a.m. with a presentation by Dr. Michelle Foster, president and CEO of the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation. Eva Jones, interim president and CEO of KISRA, will speak at 11:30 a.m., and Nicholas Oxley, vice president and investment advisor representative with Arnett Carbis Toothman Wealth Advisors LLC, will speak at 12:30 p.m. Gary Swingle, a senior vice president with Arnett Carbis Toothman Wealth Advisors LLC and member of the WVSU Board of Governors, will speak at 1 p.m. Following a break, a representative from the West Virginia Secretary of State’s Office will speak at 4 p.m., and at 5:30 p.m., Leah Ritchey, an underwriter with BrickStreet Mutual Insurance, will speak.
The lineup of speakers for the summit on Thursday, March 3, will include:
- 11 a.m., Tyler Court, State Farm agent
- 11:30 a.m., David Hardy, Kanawha County commissioner
- 2 p.m., Monty Warner, CEO of the YMCA of the Kanawha Valley
- 2:30 p.m., Andreea Slusarciuc, director of business development of the YMCA of the Kanawha Valley
- 4 p.m., Frank Parker, superintendent with EQT Corp.
- 4:30 p.m. Cheryl King, marketing manager with Frontier Communications
- 5:30 p.m. Charles “Skip” Hageboeck, president and CEO of City National Bank
