Wild, Wonderful West Virginia celebrates National Travel and Tourism Week this week with special activities and guests at the state’s Welcome Centers.

National Travel and Tourism Week is an annual tradition established by Congress in 1983 to promote the impact of travel and tourism on the economy. This year’s theme, “Travel is _______________,” encourages travelers to tailor the theme to reflect their own idea of what travel means to them.

The GoToWV Team encourages individuals to join the celebration on Twitter and Instagram using #NTTW2015 and #GoToWV.

West Virginia’s eight Welcome Centers are offering refreshments and displays in celebration of National Travel and Tourism Week. Other events and activities include:

Pocahontas County High School Tourism Club Display

The Pocahontas County High School Tourism Club, working in conjunction with the Pocahontas Convention &Visitors Bureau, will design a bulletin board promoting the club.

Summersville Photo Contest (Facebook)

Post your favorite photo of Summersville to the CVB’s Facebook page: www.facebook.com/summersvilleconventionandvisitorsbureau and tell why it is your favorite.  Each post will be entered in a drawing to win a gift basket of items from the Summersville area.

Refreshments and Prize Giveaway, Morgantown

The Morgantown Convention & Visitors Bureau will provide refreshments all week for Visitor Center guests at Chaplin Road, High Street and Kingwood. Visitors Center guests also will be registered to win an ultimate prize giveaway.

Live Music, I-77 South Welcome Center, Williamstown
The Greater Parkersburg Convention & Visitors Bureau will host a performance by the bluegrass band Buck and Company from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Live Music, I-70 West Welcome Center

The Wheeling/Ohio County Convention & Visitors Bureau will host a performance by country singer Slim Lehart from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Open House, Summersville Arena & Conference Center

The Summersville Convention & Visitors Bureau will host an open house from 11a.m. to 4 p.m. Stop by the Visitors Center at the Summersville Arena & Conference Center for refreshments and get entered into a drawing for door prizes.

Live Music, I-79 Welcome Center, Morgantown
The Greater Morgantown Convention & Visitors Bureau will offer free pepperoni rolls and live dulcimer music from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the I-79 Welcome Center.

Tourism People’s Choice Award, Industry Awards, Charleston

The Charleston Convention & Visitors Bureau will announce winners in the annual Tourism People’s Choice Awards and Industry Awards at 5 p.m. at B&D Gastropub in Kanawha City.

Tri-County Display, Seneca Rocks Discovery Center

The Tri-County CVB (Grant, Hardy and Pendleton counties) will host a display at the Discovery Center at Seneca Rocks from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Mercer County Display, Tourist Information Center, Princeton

The Mercer County Convention & Visitors Center will set up at the Tourist Information Center in Princeton from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to hand out visitor’s guides and brochures and bottled water.
