The U.S. Department of Labor recently recognized WorkForce West Virginia for the agency’s exemplary service to veterans.

“West Virginia consistently meets or exceeds national performance goals for the services we offer to veterans, and I’m pleased the U.S. Department of Labor has chosen to recognize not only our strong track record, but also the passionate commitment found among our staff who assist the servicemen and women in our state,” said Russell Fry, acting executive director of WorkForce West Virginia.

WorkForce West Virginia supports veterans by offering priority assistance in a number of agency services, including employment and training program referral, counseling, testing and job development, and tax credit eligibility information.

In addition, the agency’s Disabled Veterans Outreach program provides eligible veterans with intensive case management services. Eligible veterans include those with significant barriers to employment such as homelessness, disability, long-term unemployment, incarceration and low income.

WorkForce West Virginia’s job-seekers toolkit extends to servicemen and women, as they can receive help with resume writing, interviews, and short-term and long-term career goal development.

Lastly, WorkForce West Virginia works closely with partnering agencies, such as the Department of Veterans Affairs, on a case-by-case basis to ensure all veterans have access to the supporting services they need to not only find a job, but become self-sufficient and live positive, fulfilling lives in West Virginia.
