West Virginia University Hospitals-East officials announced today the public launch of Time Saves Lives, a $3 million major gifts fund raising campaign to solicit community support to assist in underwriting facility and service enhancements at both City Hospital in Martinsburg and Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson.
The funds will support the $31.5 million construction program that began in the spring of 2010 at WVUH-East. Projects already partially funded by Time Saves Lives campaign include the emergency department, intensive care unit and cardiac cath lab at City Hospital, and the women’s imaging center at Jefferson Memorial Hospital.
According to Time Saves Lives Campaign Chairman Robert Baronner, over $1.93 million has been pledged to date toward the overall goal. These donations came primarily from “hospital family” including employees, board directors and physicians. An additional $1.1 million is needed to fully fund the remaining building projects, Baronner stated.
“We are now turning to the community to ask for support of our Time Saves Lives campaign,” Baronner said. Priority projects still in need of funding include equipment for a second cardiac cath lab at City Hospital, and a new outpatient cancer treatment center located in the McCormack Center on the City Hospital campus.
“Our campaign volunteers will be meeting with individuals and businesses asking them to join us in supporting this campaign,” Baronner commented. “When you hear from us, please think about the value our WVUH-East hospitals bring to our community and our way of life. Please give generously.”
As part of the public announcement event, which was held at the Holiday Inn in Martinsburg, numerous campaign volunteers and top campaign donors were acknowledged and thanked. Seven of the major campaign donors were present, and several spoke about their investment in health care for residents of the Eastern Panhandle.
Leadership donors present included individuals Dr. Jules & Mary Lou Langlet, Randy Smith, M. Elizabeth Oates; local businesses Bank of Charles Town and BB&T; and physician groups Salutis Emergency Specialists and Martinsburg Radiology Associates. The donations and pledges from these seven donors totals nearly $750,000 of the $1.9 million that has been raised.
