The Petroleum Technology Transfer Council Appalachian Center of the West Virginia University National Research Center for Coal and Energy will be hosting a workshop on innovative water management for the shale gas industry on Thursday, Aug. 22 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Waterfront Place Hotel in Morgantown.
Water management has become a critical element in shale gas development both as an environmental concern and key to economic success for the operator. The workshop will present several widely different approaches to reducing the environmental impact of shale gas development and understanding how to best manage the water resources available.
Participants will learn about constructed wetland treatment systems, use of water from abandoned mine drainage for hydraulic fracturing, hydrology and water management in coalbed methane reservoirs, and the integration of water resource models with Fayetteville Shale decision and support systems.
