WVU Medicine Berkeley Medical Center has introduced a support group aimed at offering comradery and educational resources to patients and their caregivers struggling to manage a cardiovascular disease.
These free, monthly support sessions allow cardiovascular patients to join together to learn more about their disease and the actions they can take to support their physical and emotional health. Cardiovascular diseases are conditions that affect the structure or function of the heart and the arteries leading to and from the heart.
“I created this group to give cardiovascular patients and their caregivers a safe space to discuss the challenges and successes of managing their disease,” Cathy Funk, M.D., said. “Each session will feature education, including risk factors and ongoing care. We also plan to have hospital staff present to help identify resources for patients who may need additional care.”
The Cardiovascular Support Group meets the fourth Tuesday of each month from 6 – 7 p.m. in suite 2400 of the Dorothy McCormack Center. Dr. Funk will join the group at the January 28 meeting to share information and take questions. For more information, contact Blue Ridge Healthcare at 304.264.9837. Pre-registration is not required to participate in the support group.
