West Virginia University Student Affairs and Academic Affairs continue to offer a program called Preparing to Achieve Student Success to support first-year students on academic probation.
The first step in the PASS program is the Mid-Year Academy, which will take place on Jan. 13 from 2-6 p.m. on the Downtown and Evansdale campuses. Students with less than a 2.0 GPA at the end of their first semester are automatically enrolled in PASS and are required to attend the Mid-Year Academy.
“The Mid-Year Academy gives students the opportunity to learn more about WVU support services, such as advising, tutoring and counseling,” said Student Success and Retention Programs director Regan Bruni. “Support services that will help students get back on track and progressing toward earning a degree.”
During the program, students will also meet with their advisor and attend an information fair.
Students will have the opportunity to adjust their spring semester schedules to enable success, explore programs of study that will better meet their individual needs, explore resources and services available to help develop success skills and hear from peers who were at one time on academic probation but are now successful students.
“WVU is committed to helping our students earn their degree,” Bruni said. “The Mid-Year Academy and the PASS program are designed to help our first-year students get back on track after their first semester. There are several on-campus resources to assist students, and we want to make sure they are aware of everything that is available to them.”
PASS and Mid-Year Academy are part of WVU’s commitment in its 2020 Strategic Plan for the Future to engage undergraduate, graduate and professional students in a challenging academic environment.
