11th Annual Mid-Ohio Valley Heritage Quilt Show through March 22 at Blennerhassett Museum

The Blennerhassett Museum of Regional History’s 11th annual Mid-Ohio Valley Heritage Quilt Show, sponsored by the Friends of Blennerhassett and WesBanco, is underway and continues through March 22, 2015. There are 75 quilt entries in the show this year that showcase the artistic work of local quilters and needle workers.

Quilt categories for entries include: bed, wall, crib, duet, group, antique (pre-1950), other (mixed, special, applique´), and themed. The themed category for this year is “Sew a Garden,” where all types of floral patterns and fabric are used in the design of each quilt entered.

Awards are given in each category along with “Best of Show” (hand-quilted); “Best of Show” (machine quilted); Superintendent’s Choice; and “Best of Themed” and “Best of Show.”   People attending the quilt show can vote for the “People’s Choice,” which will be announced March 22.

Quilt appraisals by Marilyn Maher, Certified AQS Appraiser

Find out what your quilt is worth by making an appointment to have your quilt appraised by Certified AQS Appraiser, Marilyn Maher. Marilyn will examine your quilt(s) to identify the pattern, method of construction, approximate age and value.

The cost for each appraisal is $20, which includes museum admission and quilt show. Pre-registration is required in order to schedule a time for your individual appraisal.

Other activities during the Quilt Show     

Sewing Machines
Brenda Wentzel, an area collector of sewing machines and related items, will have her private collection of treadle and hand-crank sewing machines on display during the quilt show.

“Bed Turnings from the Past”

Have you ever wondered about what kind of stories a quilt can tell?  Stories unfold with each quilt turned back on a bed stacked with quilts upon quilt. To attend “Bed Turnings” there is a $10 per person price that includes museum admission, quilt show displays and light refreshments. Advance reservations are highly recommended by phoning 304-428-4800.

The Blennerhassett Museum of Regional History is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. General admission to the museum is $4 for adults and $2 for children 3-12.
