Take a hike on the North Bend Rail Trail Oct. 11 and enjoy 10 miles of Ritchie County fall foliage.
“This is one of the best times of the year to experience the historic Pennsboro Railroad Depot, the small town charm of Pennsboro and Ellenboro, natural springs, and several tunnels and bridges that make up the beautiful North Bend Rail Trail,” said Ken Zebo, activities coordinator at North Bend State Park.
Hikers will meet at Picnic Shelter #3 at North Bend State Park and take a shuttle into Pennsboro, then hike the rail trail back. The shuttle departs at 8:30 a.m. Hikers must register in advance.
Hike leaders recommend that participants bring water, wear sturdy shoes or boots, bring snacks, dress for the weather, and bring a flashlight for trekking through the tunnels. Large hiking groups can support this program by bringing a van and dropping off hikers. For hike details, call North Bend State Park at 304-643-2931 or email northbendsp@wv.gov.
