West Virginia State University’s (WVSU) Creators Program workshop series continues with a free “Business of Film” seminar at the WVSU Economic Development Center (EDC) Tuesday, Oct. 21, from 7 p.m. to 9:45 p.m.
The event is presented by West Virginia Film Office Director Pam Haynes and staff and will provide an overview of the Film Office, with a focus on West Virginia’s tax credit program.
“This presentation targets emerging and established filmmakers, skilled labor, production companies, and even high school and college students,” said Haynes.
Topics include the role of the West Virginia Film Office and its services, such as how to find work in the state, the filmmakers’ code of responsibility, searching and securing locations for filming and film permits.
The West Virginia Film Office supports commerce by recruiting productions to conduct business in the state. The office also administers the West Virginia Film Industry Investment Act, a competitive economic development grant tool used to recruit film industry business.
The Creators Program launched in 2012 as a series of community workshops for all levels focusing on skills and knowledge essential to creating for mass media and art. WVSU partners with the West Virginia Economic Development Council and the West Virginia Film Office on the series.
Space is limited for the events, and registration is required. To register, visit wvsuedc.org and click on “The Creators Program” tab.
The WVSU EDC is located at 1506 Kanawha Blvd. W. in Charleston.
