Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin today announced the West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will be nationally recognized for making services more accessible to citizens through its online vehicle registration and renewal service.
“I’m pleased the DMV is being honored for its innovative efforts to help make state procedures and processes easier and more accessible,” Gov. Tomblin said. “We live in a day and age where time is of the essence, and by making these services available online, our citizens now have a time-saving method to renew vehicle registration and complete other, often tedious, tasks. Each of us can now enjoy access to the DMV from the convenience of our own homes, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
The Center for Digital Government will present the West Virginia DMV with the 2014 Digital Government Achievement Award in the “Government to Citizen” State Government category on October 23, 2014, in San Francisco, California. This is the DMV’s second Digital Government Achievement Award since 2010.
The online services portal allows customers to easily renew registrations by simply entering personal property tax payment and insurance information. When completed online, citizens receive email conformation with a printable registration card and have the option to upgrade to a two-year renewal process.
“We are proud that the online vehicle renewal program has been nationally recognized,” said DMV Commissioner Steven O. Dale. “Online and mobile services make it easy and convenient for citizens to interact with the DMV. Through our public-private partnership with the state portal manager, West Virginia Interactive, we will continue to bring more services online in the future, including driver’s license renewal and mobility impaired parking placards.”
In addition to online vehicle registration renewals, customers can check the status of their driver’s license, purchase their driving record, pay driver’s license reinstatement fees, and perform a personalized license plate search through the DMV’s online portal.
