The Blennerhassett Museum’s Holiday Open House, featuring the popular annual Trees of Our Heritage exhibit, is Sunday, Nov. 16, 2014, 1-3 p.m. This open house kicks off a six-week display of 33 Christmas trees representing different countries around the globe and special themed trees.
The event includes entertainment, refreshments and Father Christmas. The entertainment includes local musician Marsha Parsons (pianist); Bob & Melissa Herceg with chamber music: cello and flute; Williamstown High School Choir, directed by Brad Ritchie; and Scott Cain playing hammered dulcimer. Light refreshments will be provided by the Friends of Blennerhassett.
Father Christmas (Santa Claus), dressed in Victorian fashion, will be at the museum for children to meet. Parents are encouraged to bring a camera for this special opportunity. There will be a “make-it and take-it” craft for children to take home.
Admission is free for the open house. The museum will be open through Dec. 21 for friends and families to visit and see the trees exhibit. Regular museum admission applies to all other days the museum is open.
The museum also features a video about Harman and Margaret Blennerhassett and the history of the island. Exhibits relating to Parkersburg and the Ohio Valley from early ancient to 20th century artifacts and relics are on display. The Museum of Regional History is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Regular museum rates are $4 adult admission and $2 for children age 3-12.
