University Healthcare Jefferson Medical Center was named one of the nation’s Top Performers on Key Quality Measures® for 2013 by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of healthcare organizations in America.
Jefferson Medical Center was recognized as part of The Joint Commission’s 2014 annual report “America’s Hospitals: Improving Quality and Safety.” for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance on the Pneumonia measure set. Jefferson Medical Center is one of 1,224 hospitals in the United States to achieve the 2013 Top Performer distinction.
“At Jefferson Medical Center, quality is not a goal it is an expectation. It is not one person, but a team that ensures we provide evidence-based quality of care to each and every patient. Our team celebrates the recognition and is proud to offer exceptional care to our community,” stated Jessica Buck, CPHM, director of quality and care management.
The Top Performer program recognizes hospitals for improving performance on evidence-based interventions that increase the chances of healthy outcomes for patients with certain conditions. This is the second year that Jefferson Medical Center has been recognized as a Top Performer, making it one of only 712 hospitals to achieve this recognition for the past two consecutive years.
To be a 2013 Top Performer, hospitals had to meet three performance criteria based on 2013 accountability measures data, including: achieving cumulative performance of 95 percent or above across all reported accountability measures, achieving performance of 95 percent or above on each and every reported accountability measure where there were at least 30 denominator cases, and having at least one core measure set that had a composite rate of 95 percent or above and (within that measure set) all applicable individual accountability measures had a performance rate of 95 percent or above.
“Being named a Top Performer hospital demonstrates to the public our exceptional commitment to quality improvement at Jefferson Medical Center,” stated Christina DeRosa, PhD, president and chief operating officer. “We understand that what matters most to patients is safe, effective care and better health outcomes. We are proud of our entire JMC health care team and proud to once again be among The Joint Commission’s top performers.”
