In accordance with presidential proclamation, Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin today ordered all U.S. and State flags on all State-owned facilities be lowered from dawn to dusk Friday, May 15, 2015, in commemoration of Peace Officers Memorial Day.

“This week, we come together as a state and nation to reflect upon the bravery and sacrifice of our law enforcement officers,” Gov. Tomblin said. “We pay tribute to the men and women who laid down their lives to protect our families and our communities and honor all those who are injured in the line of duty. We are forever grateful for their selfless service.”

Peace Officers Memorial Day is held annually on May 15 in honor of federal, state and local law enforcement officers who have fallen or been disabled in the line of duty. It is held in conjunction with Police Week, which is observed May 10 through May 16, 2015.
