Thursday, May 14 at 7:15 p.m., the Kanawha Valley Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS) is hosting an annual event honoring the top-performing West Virginia students and schools that participate in the Chemistry Olympiad, a comprehensive competition for high school students designed to encourage their interest and performance in chemistry. This year, 518 students from nine schools participated in the Chemistry Olympiad.
Paul Hill, Chancellor of the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission, will join ACS representatives at University of Charleston in the Erma Byrd Art Gallery to honor these outstanding students, who will be joined by their families and high school teachers. Chancellor Hill will deliver the keynote address and discuss opportunities for students to pursue STEM degrees and careers in West Virginia. Representatives of local higher education institutions also will be on hand to present chemistry scholarships.
