Delegates from Shanxi Province in the People’s Republic of China will visit Charleston to sign a series of agreements with members of West Virginia’s business, government and educational communities. The signing ceremony will take place 9 a.m. Thursday, June 18, in the Great Hall of the West Virginia Culture Center in Charleston.
The documents include a Friendship Agreement between the Shanxi Province and the state; a Memorandum of Understanding that promotes educational and academic exchanges among higher education institutions in West Virginia and Shanxi Province; and an equipment purchase and business collaboration agreement between West Virginia’s Petitto Engineering and Shanxi Province’s Datong Mining Group.
West Virginia participants will include:
- Keith Burdette, cabinet secretary for the West Virginia Department of Commerce
- Dr. Qingyun Sun, Associate Director, U.S. China Energy Center, West Virginia University
- Dr. Paul Hill, chancellor, West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission
