Travelocity’s Roaming Gnome, the garden variety figure gone tourist, is visiting West Virginia in May, including stops at some of the West Virginia’s state parks. One of the first stops was at Blackwater Falls State Park near Davis.
The Gnome’s visits are part of a cooperative venture with the West Virginia Division of Tourism, according to Matt Baker, superintendent at Blackwater Falls State Park, and the stop at the park was one of four in Tucker County. The Traveling Gnome is a recognized icon for the online reservation company Travelocity, which is associated with Expedia.
“Every time Blackwater Falls State Park has the privilege to be included in a national promotion; we see increases in interest, not only for the park, but also for businesses in our area,” Baker said.
West Virginia’s state parks are offering lodge room discounts to celebrate the Gnome’s sightings in the Mountain State. Available online or by calling the parks directly, the Gnome Discount at participating state park lodges is a 1-2-3 rate available through June 7, with May 26-30, 2016 excluded. Stay one night and the room rate is reduced 10 percent. Stay two consecutive nights and the rate reduces by 20 percent. Stay three or more nights and earn a 30 percent reduction. The Gnome Discount cannot be combined with other discounts.
Parks offering the Gnome Discount include Blackwater Falls, Cacapon, Chief Logan Lodge, Hawks Nest, North Bend, Pipestem, Twin Falls, and Tygart Lake. To reserve online, visit www.wvstateparks.com and click “Online Reservations.”
