The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra (WVSO) will kick off its statewide fall tour with a show at West Virginia State University (WVSU) on Thursday, Sept. 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the school’s Davis Fine Arts Building.
The performance is free and open to the public.
“The on-campus concert of the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra is a highlight of the fall performance calendar each year at WVSU,” said Dr. Scott Woodard, WVSU’s director of bands and instrumental music. “Because of our unique partnership with the WVSO, State students, faculty and staff are afforded the opportunity to see and hear this world-class ensemble of musicians, which serves to strengthen the cultural aspect of the liberal arts education provided at our University.”
During the concert in Institute, the Symphony will perform “Appalachian Autumn,” and “A Song of Longing, Though” by WVSO Artistic Director and Conductor Grant Cooper. In addition, the Symphony will also perform Faure’s “Pelleas et Melisande” and Kodaly’s “Dances of Galanta.”
While tickets are free, they must be reserved in advance by calling the WVSU College of Arts and Humanities at (304) 766-3196. Tickets can then be picked up at the box office in the Davis Fine Arts Building beginning at 6 p.m. the evening of the concert.
The performance on the WVSU campus in Institute will be the first stop in a five city statewide fall tour that will also see the WVSO performing in Princeton, Glenville, Elkins and Fairmont.
