West Virginia University Hospitals-East City Hospital has been granted AABB (formerly the American Association of Blood Banks) accreditation for the Blood Bank Transfusion service.
This accreditation announcement follows an intensive on-site survey by specially trained AABB assessors, and establishes that the level of technical and administrative performance within the facility meets or exceeds the standards set by AABB.
By successfully meeting these requirements, City Hospital joins similar facilities located throughout the United States and around the world that have earned AABB Accreditation.
AABB Accreditation is voluntary and City Hospital has sought accreditation because this program assists facilities in achieving excellence by promoting a level of professional and technical expertise that contributes to quality performance and patient safety.
The AABB Accreditation program has been recognized by the International Society for Quality in Healthcare. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) has found the AABB accreditation process provides reasonable assurance that the facilities accredited by it meet or exceed conditions required by federal law and regulations.
AABB is an international, not-for-profit association representing individuals and institutions involved in the field of transfusion medicine and cellular therapies. Membership consists of nearly 2,000 institutions in more than 80 countries. For more information, please visit www.aabb.org.
