In today’s financial, marketing, and organizational environment, old-style thinking just won’t cut it. That’s why author and innovation consultant Tim Hurson will be a featured keynote speaker at this year’s Faces of Leadership conference, the state’s largest annual gathering of West Virginians strengthening communities through volunteerism and service.

The conference will be held at the Charleston Civic Center on August 7-9. Hurson will deliver his keynote presentation on Tuesday, August 7 at 11:30 a.m.

Hurson is the co-founder of ThinkX, an organization designed to lead people through a Productive Thinking Process that becomes the critical differentiator between individuals and organizations that stagnate and those that thrive in the new world. Using the principles in his upcoming book, The Shock of the Possible, he will offer attendees a way out of “old-style thinking” and motivate them to galvanize their communities and organizations into thinking outside of the slump.

“Increasingly, it is quality of thinking that differentiates great organizations from merely good ones,” Hurson says. “ThinkX believes most organizations have the ideas they need inside their own walls. By developing the productive thinking capacity of their people, these organizations are able to generate more ideas, more innovative ideas, more workable ideas, and, ultimately, more success.”

Hurson is an internationally known speaker, writer, and creativity theorist from Toronto, Canada. He is the author of Think Better – An Innovator’s Guide to Productive Thinking. He speaks regularly about how to use the principles of productive thinking and creative leadership to manage change rather than be swamped by it.

Hurson is just one of many highlights of this year’s Faces of Leadership conference. Volunteer West Virginia, the state’s Commission for National and Community Service, coordinates the annual statewide conference on volunteerism, community service and service-learning. This year’s conference theme, Connect-Create-Engage, explores how West Virginians connect through shared passion for their communities, create partnerships for positive change, and engage in new ways to solve issues. Regular conference registration is $175.  Registration includes all conference sessions, refreshments and meals. Single day registration is also an option. Most sessions can be counted toward the Certificate in Nonprofit Management offered through West Virginia University.
