She’s an Alabama girl but has a special place in her heart for West Virginia.
Earlier this year, 18-year-old Georgia Clark of Dothan, Alabama competed against 30 other contestants from all over the world in the 2018 Miss Teen International Pageant. Clark won the pageant in part due to her platform emphasizing the civic engagement of her peers and young people all over the world.

The 2018 pageant took place at the Clay Center in Charleston, West Virginia. Charleston was chosen over dozens of other cities vying to host the pageant and its contestants, as well as their families and fans. The West Virginia Division of Arts, Culture & History (http://www.wvculture.org/) and curator Randall Reid-Smith were instrumental in encouraging the pageant directors to select West Virginia for the event.
September is National Voter Registration Month and this coming Tuesday (9/25) is National Voter Registration Day (NVRD). Clark will be returning to the Mountain State this weekend at the invitation of Secretary of State Mac Warner. Because of Warner’s interest in encouraging young West Virginians to register to vote, Clark will be visiting three area high schools to help Warner promote civic engagement.
“We are excited about Miss Clark’s return to West Virginia. And to have her here on National Voter Registration Day emphasizes our focus on encouraging young adults to register to vote,” said Secretary Warner.
Clark will be escorted during her visit by Curator Randall Reid-Smith. On Tuesday, they will join Secretary Warner with visits to:
8:00 a.m. Cabell Midland High School (Cabell County)
11:00 a.m. Hurricane High School (Putnam County)
1:00 p.m. George Washington High School (Kanawha County)
*Members of the media are welcome to visit any of the three stops during the NVRD tour. Please be mindful of the security precautions posted at each school. Miss Clark, Secretary Warner and Curator Reid-Smith will all be available for interviews.
Each school on the tour will host an assembly where students will hear from Warner, Clark and Reid-Smith. A short voter registration drive for students who are 18-years-old or who will be 18 prior to the November 6thelection will take place immediately following the assembly.
The West Virginia Secretary of State’s Office will celebrate National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday in other high schools and community venues throughout the state. Voter registration drives have been taking place all month long.
As of today, there have been 24,357 high school students registered to vote since Warner became Secretary of State just 19 months ago (see the county-by-county breakdown attached).
