The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) will celebrate the Lab’s 2019 science and technology (S&T) accomplishments on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020, at the Lab’s Pittsburgh site in South Park.
Congressional guests and some of NETL’s university partners will attend. All media outlets are invited to attend and cover the event.
When: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020, for opening remarks. (Note: Media must arrive at 9:30 a.m. for security processing.)

NETL is celebrating its most notable 2019 achievements with an interactive poster session aimed at highlighting the Lab’s vital work to ensure affordable, reliable energy for all Americans.
The 2019 S&T Accomplishments Session will kick off with opening remarks at 10 a.m. from NETL Director Brian J. Anderson, Congressional guests and academic officials from some of the Lab’s university partners. Researchers will be on hand during the poster presentation to discuss NETL’s innovative research and development in five key areas:
- Improving the performance, reliability and efficiency of the existing coal-fired power fleet.
- Advancing the next generation of modular, highly efficient and flexible coal-fired power plants.
- Reducing the cost of captured carbon and putting it to work for America.
- Creating new jobs, products and markets for coal.
- Leveraging big data and machine learning to unlock the nation’s vast unconventional oil and gas reserves.
