West Virginia International Yeager Airport (CRW) is pleased to announce the award of $8 million in grant funding from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, supporting the airport’s terminal development project known as CRW Next. This vital funding, made possible through the strong support of Senator Shelley Moore Capito, along with Senator Manchin and Congresswoman Miller, will enable CRW to modernize its facilities and enhance the passenger experience, preparing the airport for future growth.

The CRW Next Terminal Development Project will include significant upgrades to improve operational efficiency and comfort, such as expanded passenger amenities, a more streamlined security checkpoint, and ADA-compliant facilities. In addition, the project will include significant infrastructure improvements, including apron pavement upgrades and the realignment of Taxiways A and B, which will optimize the airport’s operational capabilities and improve safety.

Initially constructed in the 1940s and expanded over the years, CRW’s current terminal no longer meets the needs of today’s travelers. This project will address outdated infrastructure, create a more accessible and passenger-friendly environment and ensure that CRW remains a valuable asset to the region. The majority of the project funding will come from federal grants, including the FAA’s Airport Terminal Program (ATP) and the Airport Infrastructure Grant (AIG), both key FAA-funded awards. These grants will significantly shape the facility’s final design, with project costs estimated between $60 and $77 million, depending on the program scope.

“This substantial investment enables us to make critical improvements that will transform the passenger experience at CRW,” says Dominique Ranieri, airport director and CEO of West Virginia International Yeager Airport. “We’re thrilled to create a more welcoming environment for our travelers, supporting West Virginia’s growing role as a destination for tourism.”
