Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV-2) toured TW Metals to meet with employees who work to manufacture parts for U.S. Navy aircraft carriers and learn how the local economy is impacted by carrier construction. TW Metals supplies specialty metals for the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier construction and maintenance program.

The United States Navy is currently constructing Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), the first ship in the newest class of nuclear-powered aircraft carriers, set to be christened on November 9, 2013. In addition, USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) has begun its four-year overhaul, a process all Nimitz-class aircraft carriers must go through near the midpoint of their fifty-year life cycle.

During her visit at the facility, Congresswoman Capito met with the employees and managers at TW Metals to learn about the impact that Congressional aircraft carrier funding has on local business and jobs.

“It was a pleasure to visit TW Metals and meet the employees who contribute to building a vital component of our national security, U.S. Navy aircraft carriers,” says Congresswoman Capito. “This facility tour emphasized the important role TW Metals and its employees play in strengthening our national security.  I appreciate all of the work that TW Metals does to ensure that our Navy is capable of maintaining its power across the globe.”

“We are grateful that Congresswoman Capito visited our facility to learn about our work here at TW Metals. We’re proud of the work we do for the U.S. Navy and hope that with funding we can continue to give support to programs that provide national security for our nation,” says Norwin Lilly, Branch Manager, TW Metals.
