Eye surgeon Dr. J. Jefferds Sinclair, of WV Eye Consultants, announced that he is providing the iStent® Trabecular Micro-Bypass Stent as a treatment option to reduce eye pressure for patients with both cataracts and glaucoma.

The iStent is FDA-approved for use in conjunction with cataract surgery to reduce eye pressure in adult patients with mild-to-moderate open-angle glaucoma currently being treated with glaucoma medicine. In clinical trials, iStent has been shown to safely reduce eye pressure, which is the primary cause of open-angle glaucoma.

“This is great news for people who have both a cataract and glaucoma,” says Dr. Sinclair. The eye drops used to treat glaucoma can be difficult to administer and expensive. With iStent, many patients will need less medicine to control their eye pressure and some may not need prescription eye drops at all.”

Dr. Sinclair is an accomplished ophthalmologist (eye surgeon), who graduated from George Washington High School. Before returning to Charleston, WV, to form West Virginia Eye Consultants with Dr. Stansbury, he was the lead surgeon for a very busy ophthalmology practice in Suffolk, Virginia. He has experience with all aspects of eye disease, both clinically and surgically, and has performed thousands of cataract surgeries. Other areas of expertise include glaucoma management and surgery, eyelid surgery, and laser vision correction (LASIK, PRK). Dr. Sinclair stays on the cutting edge of technology to provide patients with the very best options for any surgical procedure.

WV Eye Consultants facilities are located in Charleston, Beckley, Ripley, and Point Pleasant, WV.  If you are currently dealing with issues relating to cataracts and glaucoma, please call WV Eye Consultants to see if the iStent® is right for you.
