John Mork is one of the most respected energy executives in the United States. He has been president, CEO and a director of Energy Corporation of America since its formation in 1993.
So when the West Virginia University College of Business and Economics got the chance to present Mork as part of its B&E Distinguished Speaker Series, it was a no-brainer. Mork will speak as part of the series Sept. 27 at the WVU Mountainlair Ballrooms at 9:30 a.m.
Headquartered in Denver, Colo., Energy Corporation of America is a privately held company that actively pursues the exploration, extraction, production and transportation of natural gas and oil, both in the United States and around the world. The corporation owns and operates approximately 4,600 wells, 5,000 miles of pipeline, and one million acres in North America alone. Its Eastern Division is active in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Kentucky and New York; its Rocky Mountain Division is active in Colorado and Montana; its Gulf Coast Division is active in Texas; and its International Division is active in New Zealand.
“John Mork is very highly respected in the energy arena and he heads a very successful energy company that has part of its operations in West Virginia,” said Jose “Zito” Sartarelli, Milan Puskar dean of the College of Business and Economics. “Energy continues to play an increasingly important part in the global landscape, and we are extremely fortunate to have someone who has this vast knowledge of the domestic and international natural gas and oil industries as part of our speaker series.”
Mork served in various capacities at Union Oil Company until 1972 when he joined Pacific States Gas and Oil, Inc. and subsequently founded Eastern American Energy Corporation. Mork was president and a director of that corporation from 1973 until 1993 with the incorporation of Energy Corporation of America.
Mork holds a bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering from the University of Southern California and is a graduate of the Stanford Business School Program for Chief Executive Officers. He is a past director of the Independent Petroleum Association of America, and the Independent Oil and Gas Association of West Virginia. He was a member of and held various positions with the Young Presidents Organization from 1984 until 1998.
He also founded the Mountain State Chapter of the Young Presidents Organization located in Charleston. He is currently a member of the Chief Executives Organization, the World President’s Organization, the University of Southern California Engineering School Board of Councilors and the University of Southern California Board of Trustees. Mork serves on the Board of Directors of the Energy Corporation of America Foundation, Inc.
He currently resides in Englewood, Colo. with his wife, Julie. They have two children: Kyle, the chief operating officer at Energy Corporation of America, and Alison Hansen, an educator in San Francisco.
