“Who Gives a Hoot? Finding Owls” is the title for April 2014 Bird of the Month program at Kanawha State Forest near Charleston. This program begins Saturday, April 19, at 6:30 p.m. at the swimming pool building and includes a dusk-into-dark hike for an “owl experience.”
“Owls are very vocal in spring months,” said Barbara Koster, a Master Naturalist who will lead the program. “Owls in the Kanawha County area include barred owls, screech owls and the occasional great horned owl.”
In the event of bad weather an alternate program will be held indoors. The program is open to the public at no charge.
Previous Birds of the Month featured at Kanawha State Forest include Louisiana waterthrush, Carolina wren, American crow, golden eagle, backyard birds and yellow-bellied sapsucker.
