The West Virginia State Police will hold a press conference, Thursday, May 15 at 11 a.m., at the Ronald McDonald House in Charleston to announce their continued support of the McTrooper 5K Walk/Run. For the second year, this partnership between West Virginia State Police and Ronald McDonald House will help raise vital funds to support the families of sick children in our area. In partnering with us, the West Virginia State Police are continuing their longstanding tradition of service and excellence to the families of West Virginia.

The McTrooper 5K Walk/Run will be held Saturday, September 27, at the Columbia Gas Building in Charleston. There are several exciting additions to this year’s event, including the addition of Walk Teams as well as exciting activities for kids. Participants may register at McTrooperRun.com. The 5K timed run will begin at 9 a.m. and the walking portion will begin at 11 a.m. Sponsorships ranging from $500 to $2,500 are now available for this year’s event.

The Ronald McDonald House provides a warm and welcoming home to the families of children receiving medical treatment in our community. To be near their children, parents and families must often endure lengthy commutes to a strange city, sleep in hospital waiting rooms, or bear the expense of an impersonal hotel room. The Ronald McDonald House offers a temporary home that can relieve the stress, financial hardship and loneliness that is often added to the trauma of illness.  The majority of operating funds for the House come from the generosity of people in our community.  Approximately 80 percent of the funds necessary to run the House are provided through the contributions of foundations, corporations, and private individuals right here in our community.  Last year alone, the House served 2,147 people from 36 of West Virginia’s 55 counties as well as 16 families from other states.
