The Battle of Carnifex Ferry will be re-enacted Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014, at 2 p.m. upon the same ground as the original conflict of Sept. 10, 1861. The re-enactment is hosted by the 36th VA Vol. Infantry and Carnifex Ferry Battlefield State Park.

Past re-enactments have attracted hundreds of the country’s best Civil War re-enactors and have been called some of the finest small re-enactments in the eastern United States. The two-day event, which begins Saturday, Sept. 13, includes living history demonstrations such as camp life, military drills and a re-enactment of the Union assault on the center of the Confederate line. Commemorative souvenirs will be featured in the museum. Event support donations are welcome.

Park visitors are encouraged to enter the camps and interact with participants prior to the battle. Walking tours are offered each day beginning at the museum. Parking is available on the area grounds. Plan to arrive early Sunday. There is no charge to attend the events.

This event involves gunpowder, firearms and loud noise. Onlookers must exercise caution and stay behind the marked spectator lines during the battle. Pets are permitted but not recommended and must be on leash at all times. Alcohol is prohibited at Carnifex Ferry Battlefield State Park.
