“Walking through the main entrance of Adaland Mansion will open the door on a true Christmas wonderland for our guests,” according to Adaland Mansion Executive Director JoLynn Powers.
Sparkles from twinkling lights, brilliant reds abounding in every room, garlands of greenery and holly, multiple trees decorated with their own personalities and mantels filled with holiday cheer announce the special season to all visitors. This annual transformation of Adaland from its always stately presence to the Christmas wonderland is currently underway at the 1872 house which sits on the hill top four miles north of downtown Philippi.
Adaland welcomes holiday guests to a variety of public events this season. The always popular house tours will be ready for visitors on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and on Sundays by appointment following the November 21 Thanksgiving Buffet. The November 21 Thanksgiving Buffet kicks off the holiday buffet series with three seatings at 12:30, 2:15 and 3:45 pm. Reservations may be made by calling 304-516-1124. Christmas Buffets are Sundays, December 12 and 19 with three seatings. The New Year’s Eve Buffet will be Friday, December 31 with seatings at 5:00 and 7:30 pm. Prepaid reservations are required for all buffets and may be made at the aforementioned phone number.
Christmas Open House, a Christmas gift from Adaland to her guests, will show off the decorated house and entice guests with Santa’s gift shop and bake shop. The free event will be from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Adaland is now seeking donations of new items or those in new condition that can be part of the Santa’s gift shop. Donations may be dropped off at Adaland or arrangements may be made for free local pick up in Barbour County. For more information call 304-457-4933 or 304-516-1124.
The Christmas Candlelight Tour returns to Adaland Saturday, December 18 from 6:30-8:30 pm. Light refreshments are included within the admission price. Call either of the numbers above for additional information.
Something new this year is the Holiday Photo Shoot with Turning Key Photography on Saturday, December 11. Chasity Moyers will be the guest photographer from 2:00 – 5:00 pm.
