West Virginia University’s Eberly College of Arts and Sciences has established the Dr. Albert M. Reese Scholarship through a gift of $30,000 made by alumnus Albert M. and Susan Reese of Durango, Colo.

Reese, an Eberly alumnus with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies, funded the Dr. Albert M. Reese Scholarship to honor the memory of his father. Dr. Albert M. Reese was a former chair of the Department of Biology and faculty member at WVU. The scholarship will support undergraduate biology majors and pre-majors demonstrating financial need. The first scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded to a student for the 2013-14 academic year.

“Our department has many excellent undergraduate students and this scholarship will help some of these students attend WVU to study biology and pursue their dream of medical school, graduate school, or one of many other careers in biology,” said Richard Thomas, chair of the Department of Biology. “We are very pleased that Mr. Reese has chosen to honor his late father in this wonderful way.”

This contribution was made in conjunction with A State of Minds: The Campaign for West Virginia’s University. The $750 million comprehensive campaign, which is being conducted by the WVU Foundation on behalf of the University, runs through December 2015.
