Alzheimer’s and Dementia University Coming to Charleston

The Alzheimer’s Association, West Virginia Chapter will present Alzheimer’s & Dementia University for Families & Professionals on Monday, June 8, in Charleston at the auditorium of  the Columbia Gas Building, located at 1700 MacCorkle Avenue Southeast. Alzheimer’s & Dementia University for Families & Professionals is a one-day conference for family caregivers and healthcare professionals offering continuing education credits for physicians, nurses, and social workers.

“As Alzheimer’s disease progresses, care partners become hands-on caregivers,” said Laurel Kirksey, Alzheimer’s Association, West Virginia Chapter Executive Director. “Alzheimer’s & Dementia University gives care partners the tools and resources to provide the best care possible throughout each stage of the disease.”

Topics covered at the conference will include the basics of Alzheimer’s and dementia, improving communication strategies, recommendations for legal and financial safety and security, and tips for working with healthcare providers. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Raghavendra Mulinti, Assistant Program Director and Assistant Professor of the Department of Internal Medicine at West Virginia University’s Charleston Division. Dr. Mulinti specializes in geriatrics and completed the Geriatric Medicine Fellowship at Harvard Medical School in 2013.

Registration opens at 8:30 a.m. and the conference is 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided.
