The Alzheimer’s Association, West Virginia Chapter is offering Effective Communication Strategies, a free community workshop to help families and caregivers connect and communicate at each stage of the disease. The one-hour workshop will be held Thursday, August 6, at 3 p.m. at the Association’s Charleston office, located at 1601 2nd Avenue.
As people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias progress in their journey and the ability to use words is lost, families need new ways to connect. Individuals living with dementia often experience changes in behavior that can be confusing to friends and family. For caregivers and family members, learning to decode messages through attitude, tone of voice, facial expressions and body language can help both parties to connect and communicate in meaningful ways. Join us to learn effective strategies to navigate communication changes.
