Guests attending the 28th Annual Athens-Concord Town Social are being asked to help celebrate this year’s theme, “Athens-Concord: A Caring Community,” by bringing items to contribute to community service projects.  The Town Social will be held on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014 on the front lawn of Concord University from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The “Stuff the Bus” campaign sponsored by Concord University’s Beckley campus is among the groups collecting donations. In its second year at Concord, “Stuff the Bus” collects school supplies for children in southern West Virginia. The Town of Athens is asking for donations of books to stock the Little Free Libraries now available to the community. This book exchange program is based on the principle of “take a book, leave a book.”

The Athens-Concord Town Social committee is also announcing the entertainment lineup for the afternoon. Two popular local bands are booked to play. The Allen Smith Trio will entertain with “classic R&B with a twist of smooth jazz and soul.”  Margo and the Bluegills take the stage with “eclectic, rockin, folkin blues.”

Vendor space is still available for the event. Vendors are invited to set up a booth, free-of-charge, to display and sell their handicrafts. To reserve a space contact Sharon Griffee at 304-384-3243 or Pat Edge at 304-384-7709. Reservations should be made by Friday, Aug. 1, 2014.

For general information about the Town Social, contact Lynne White, chair of the Athens-Concord Town Social Committee, at 304-384-4117.
