August is Art Appreciation Month and to celebrate, a program about artist Lily Irene Jackson (1848 – 1928) will be presented by local historian Jeff Little Sunday, Aug. 10 at 2 p.m. at the Blennerhassett Museum of Regional History. Visitors will see the new exhibit featuring paintings done by Miss Jackson (1848-1928)
“There, among the works of art, hangs one of Parkersburg’s greatest historical treasures, the recently-acquired and restored portrait in oils of Miss Lily Irene Jackson,” said Blennerhassett State Park historian Ray Swick. “Jeff Little’s extensive research creates a palate of her intriguing life and shares the contributions of this local artist and amateur historian.”
Lily Irene Jackson was the child of Judge John Jay Jackson, Jr., and his wife Caroline Glime. Miss Jackson was a remarkable artist and the most frequent subject of her skillful brush was dogs and flowers. She was a strong advocate for the arts.
“We are eager to share the artworks of such a fine artist and encourage folks to visit the museum,” said Blennerhassett Island events coordinator Pam Salisbury.
General museum admission rates apply for this event: $4 for adults and $2 for children 3-12. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. The museum is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10.
