The BodyWorks Program is a free six-week program designed to help parents and caregivers of young adolescent boys and girls ages 9-14 improve family eating and activity habits.

The program focuses on helping families create healthier lifestyles.  BodyWorks successfully guides parents to become role models and provides the tools and support families need to create healthy lifestyles while actively engaging their children.

New to the program is a separate physical activity and cooking skills for kids.  Activities will be offered that are specifically designed for the children while parents will gain knowledge and learn skills to develop and maintain healthy family habits.

Families who enroll in the BodyWorks Program will receive a free BodyWorks toolkit that includes the Body Basics book, guide books specifically for boys and girls, a weekly planner and more.  BodyWorks is a collaborative effort of WVU Medicine University Healthcare, the Berkeley County Health Department, WVU Extension and the Berkeley County Board of Education.

“The BodyWorks program is designed to provide families with tools they can begin using immediately, such as learning how to understand the information on a nutrition label, estimating proper portions to avoid ‘portion distortion’ and how to have a healthy body image, eat well and stay active for life,” says Sue Flanagan, WVU Extension.  “The program brings together families and expert community partners to promote maximum health benefits for all participants.  BodyWorks is a great program that is really fun and motivating for the entire family,” she added.

The program will be offered in six-week sessions beginning March 7 and running through April 25.  The session will be on Mondays, from 6-7:30 p.m. in the new Berkeley County Health Department building located at 122 Waverly Court in Martinsburg.  The program is free and open to all. Registration is limited.  Sign up today.
