Boone Memorial Health (BMH) is proud to announce that its President and Chief Executive Officer, Virgil Underwood, has been recognized as one of the 207 Community Hospital Presidents and CEOs to Know for 2025 by Becker’s Hospital Review. This prestigious recognition highlights leaders in health care who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, innovation and dedication to improving patient care and community health.

Underwood has served as CEO of BMH for the past decade, leading the organization through a period of transformative growth and innovation. During his tenure, BMH has more than tripled its workforce and footprint, increasing access to care for Southern West Virginia while enhancing its focus and efforts on the improvement of overall community health. In addition to this national recognition, Underwood was also inducted into the West Virginia Health Care Hall of Fame in 2024.
