Margaret Blennerhassett was famous for entertaining guests at her mansion on the island in the Ohio River in the summers of the late 1700s into the early 1800s. Modern-day visitors are invited to have “Brunch with Margaret” during a special event June 11 on Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park.

As part of the state park’s event and a day on the island, guests may visit the Blennerhassett Museum of Regional History, enjoy a sternwheeler ride to the island on the Island Belle, take a guided mansion tour, hitch a ride on a horse-drawn wagon, partake of brunch foods and a very special program by none other than Mrs. Blennerhassett herself, portrayed by Carolina Alvarez.

The program provides a glimpse into the 18th-century frontier life Margaret and Harman experienced while living on the island. Alvarez also shares intriguing stories about Aaron Burr, Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton. “Margaret’s love of entertaining makes her a sparkling hostess, then and now,” according to Pam Salisbury, event coordinator.

The cost of “Brunch with Margaret” event is $41.95 per person. Reservations are required. Five “Brunch” dates scheduled in 2015: June 11, July 9, August 13, Sept. 10, and Oct. 1.  For more information about the island or to reserve tickets, please call the park office at 304-420-4800 or visit www.blennerhassettislandstatepark.com.
