“The cyber threats posed by terrorist organizations and hostile governments prompt the need to take action.” – Senator Capito

U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today voted in favor of the bipartisan Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act of 2015, which passed the Senate on a 74-21 vote. Senator Capito issued the following statement regarding the bill’s passage:

“Information sharing about cyber threats between the private and public sector must happen if we are going to prevent devastating cyberattacks on systems such as the power grid, air traffic control and other critical information structures. The cyber threats posed by terrorist organizations and hostile governments prompt the need to take action. The Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act of 2015 will protect our communities from future cyber threats by facilitating voluntary information sharing, and enabling us to compare notes and develop defenses to hackers’ attacks. I applaud my colleagues for coming together in a bipartisan way to pass this very important legislation that is critical to keeping our country safe.”
