Capon Springs and Farms, a West Virginia, family-owned and operated award-winning resort, was named Retreat Central’s 2016 Best First Impression winner.

Fourteen other retreat centers from across the country vied for the title. Capon Springs, however, was the clear winner, with just about 80% of the total votes cast from the public.

After Capon Springs spread the news of the contest creatively through email newsletters and social media outlets like Facebook, their enthusiastic and loyal guest base and strong industry partners responded in dramatic fashion.

“We know how much this place means to so many people that all we had to do was let them know we were entered in a competition and it would be hard to beat us,” explained Jonathan Bellingham, third generation family member and Recreation Manager at Capon. “Besides making a great first impression, we like to think we excel even more with the lasting impression we make by taking excellent care of people during their stay,” he added.

From the moment Capon Springs guests enter the property, they get the feeling they have stepped back in time.  Whether from the 19th century buildings, classic music through the trees, or the gentle unhurried appearance of the guests, you know you have journeyed to somewhere magical.   Then when you feast on homemade meals prepared from scratch recipes passed down through generations you know you are at home.  In between meals, children and parents can experience the freedom to explore and play in a secure environment that they may never experience back home..

Earlier this year, Capon won another Retreat Central “Best of” when its swimming pool was named the 2016 Best Retreat Center Pool in the U.S. by an equally impressive margin of votes. The pool is one of the oldest preserved 19th century swimming experiences in the country. Filled entirely with healing spring water, guests have testified to its beneficial properties for centuries. This completion win was the reason the West Virginia State Tourism office presented a 2016 Stars of the Industry Award for Social Media to Capon Springs at the 2016 Governor’s Conference last month.
