Kanawha Valley Community and Technical College will offer a Certified Nursing Assistant training program that will provide comprehensive instruction for individuals seeking entry level employment as a CNA and prepares students to take the West Virginia Nurse Aide Registry Exam. The classroom training will be held in the evenings from 4:00 to 9:30 pm daily from January 17 to February 7, 2014 at the Kanawha Valley Community and Technical College campus in South Charleston, WV. The clinical training will be held from February 10 to 25 at a nursing home facility in Kanawha County from 4:00 to 9:30 pm daily.
This course is designed to provide students interested in becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant with entry level skills most commonly associated with this entry level career title. The students are required to meet professional guidelines as designated by applicable regulatory agencies. Students meeting all academic and attendance requirements will be eligible to sit for the West Virginia Registry’s Nurse Aide Examination.
This 120 hour Certified Nursing Assistant training program prepares individuals to enter the health care field. The class includes understanding body structure, function and mechanics; hygiene and infection control; use of assistive devices; safety and comfort; and work ethics of a professional member of the nursing and health team.
The course includes 65 hours of classroom instruction and 55 hours of clinical instruction delivered in a long term care facility. All classes are taught by Registered Nurses. Students must attend all of the sessions to meet the requirements of the West Virginia Office of Health Facility Licensure and Certification for Nurse Aide Registry exam. Students should be aware that clinical agencies require students to pass a criminal background check and drug screen in order to have learning experiences in their facilities.
Individuals interested in taking this training should exhibit a mature and professional demeanor, have reliable transportation and child care arrangements, be able to demonstrate academic honesty, implement ethical standards consistent with delivery of professional health care and have a friendly and caring disposition. Successful students will be able to demonstrate proficiency in all nurse aide skills and tasks.
The registration fee of $1,800 provides each student with a textbook, a workbook, an interactive CD ROM, and a student uniform. Students also receive any required immunizations, a background check, a drug test and one time certification exam. Financial aid is available for students that meet eligibility requirements.
