The 7th annual Charleston Rod Run and Doo Wop returns to Charleston Oct. 4-7. Held this year in conjunction with the World’s Championship Chili Cookoff, coordinators expect to attract approximately 25,000 people each day from 15 states and Eastern Canada.

“We’re excited to welcome car enthusiasts and visitors from all around who will come out and enjoy what we and our volunteers work so hard to put on,” said vice president of the West Virginia Rod Run and Doo Wop, Rusty Flowers. “We always have something new.  And with this year’s chili cook-off, we have a winning combination of events.”

The Mardi Gras Casino and Resort will hold a Cruise-In from 6 – 9 p.m. on Oct. 3. Two $1,000 cash prizes will be drawn for owners of pre-registered vehicles in attendance at the Cruise-In, with other cash prizes awarded during the event.

The event kicks-off for the public Oct. 4 on Kanawha Blvd. Vehicles may register between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. An automotive swap meet will take place all three days on the boulevard between Brooks St. and Leon Sullivan Way.

Brown-bag lunch cruises on the Spirit of West Virginia will be held 12:10-12:50 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

All three days will feature 7:30 p.m. concerts at Haddad Riverfront Park. The Esquires will perform Thursday, Rick K. and the Allnighters Friday, and the Diamonds will take the stage Saturday evening. Saturday also will feature post-concert fireworks.
