A wide range of events are scheduled at Canaan Valley Resort honoring the 155th anniversary of West Virginia’s statehood June 15-17 with Civil War-themed events, craft displays and much more.

West Virginia Days festivities start Friday, June 15, with wagon rides and an encampment. On Saturday, visitors can watch reenactments of Civil War skirmishes, explore the encampment, peruse wares by artisans and crafters and participate in field games and crafts. Sunday’s events include a final reenactment as well as field games and crafts. Additionally, the West Virginia Irish Road Bowling Association will host a competition in the park starting at 1:30 p.m.

“There is no other place like West Virginia and I think WV Day is a way for all of us Mountaineers to show just how proud we are to have a little piece of Almost Heaven ,” said Steve Drumheller, general manager of Canaan Valley Resort in West Virginia’s Potomac Highlands. “It’s fascinating to be among passionate people who pay attention to detail of the clothing, equipment and battlefield strategies and are willing to share their knowledge.”

The weekend’s free Civil War events will be presented by Barbour Grays from Philippi, W. Va., 1st West Virginia Cavalry Company “C,” 140th Volunteers from Green County, Penn. and West Virginia Light Artillery.
