Concord University Celebrating Homecoming 2014

Plans for Homecoming 2014 are in full swing at Concord University. The annual celebration is packed with festivities for alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends of the University.

The Homecoming football game will be played on Saturday, Oct. 11. The Mountain Lions take on the Urbana University Blue Knights at Callaghan Stadium. Kickoff is 2 p.m.

A tradition among Greek organizations and other campus groups is the annual competition for Homecoming Royalty ending with the announcement of the winners at halftime during the football game.

During Concord’s annual Homecoming Parade, candidates and members of their organizations will display floats, banners and costumes as part of the competition. Billboards will also be located around campus. Theme for 2014 is “Greek Mythology.”

The parade is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. on Vermillion Street in Athens. Area businesses, clubs and other organizations interested in placing entries in the parade should email cuevents@concord.edu or call 304-384-6286. After the parade Concord homecoming tradition continues with a bonfire in the Valley.  Entertainment will be provided by GAGE and the Ohio Burn Unit Show.

The Career Symposium, in its sixth year at Concord, will be held on Friday, Oct. 10. Sponsored by Concord University’s Advancement/Career Services Office, the event will connect current students with alumni. Concord graduates will visit classrooms to speak on a variety of career options and offer helpful employment tips for undergraduates. The symposium will allow students to talk with alumni and make important professional connections that can be used in obtaining internships or jobs.

A Rededication Ceremony for the J. Frank Marsh Library will be held at the library on Oct. 10 at 3 p.m.

The annual Alumni Pig Roast is scheduled for Oct. 10 in the Pais Fellowship Hall in University Point. The event begins at 6 p.m. Musical entertainment will be provided by The Boatmen. Activities continue on Oct. 10 with the Lip Sync Contest at 8 p.m. in the Main Gym of the Carter Center. An Alumni After Hours event will be held that evening at Brandon’s BBQ & Grille in Pipestem beginning at 9:30 p.m.

Game day festivities on Oct. 11 include a number of activities. An Alumni Brunch will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon in the Pais Fellowship Hall in University Point. The Lion’s Den Tailgate opens at 12 noon at the football stadium main lot. This event is reserved for invited guests and members of the Concord University Alumni Association.
