The fifth annual Night in the Art Gallery reception will be held on May 22, 2014 from 5-7 p.m. in the Arthur Butcher Gallery. The gallery is located in the Alexander Fine Arts Center on the Concord University campus in Athens, West Virginia. This art exhibition is a continuing partnership between Concord University’s Art Department and Mercer County Schools.

Visitors will have the opportunity to view student artwork from Bluefield High School, Princeton Senior High School, Glenwood Middle School and three elementary schools. Concord University Art Education students Della Allen, Jaclyn Whittaker, Holly Pittman, Faith Endicott and Cortney Cox will help install the artwork.

During this interactive reception, visitors will be encouraged to create their own works of art by participating in hands-on activities and watching demonstrations conducted by Concord University Art Education students under the direction of Dr. Lauri Reidmiller, associate professor of art.

Della Allen will be teaching a lesson on a Chinese art form. Kimberly Sexton will be teaching yarn painting from the Huichol people. Tim Hiner will be conducting a hands-on recycled jewelry making activity. Dr. Reidmiller will be teaching an Australian didgeridoo lesson during the opening.

Dr. Reidmiller extends a special thanks to Cynthia Tilley, Jean McCloud, Joyce Shamro, Rob Ofsa, Denise Ward, Kellan Sarles, Kevin Bennington, Jack Sheffler, Cody Vest, Karen Hayes and all of the young artists and their families for helping to make the fifth annual Night in the Art Gallery a success.
