Concord University’s Stuff the Bus is announcing its first large collection in Mercer County. The group will be set up at the Princeton Walmart to collect donations on Saturday, Aug. 6 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Stuff the Bus provides classroom basics from pencils, notebooks and pens, to crayons, colored pencils and backpacks for students in need. This is the fourth year Concord has participated in the project, assisting children across southern West Virginia.

“With the help of our local communities and the businesses within them, we have been able to donate supplies to Raleigh, Fayette, Summers, Mercer, Wyoming and Kanawha counties. This will be the first year that we have focused on Mercer County and we are excited to help more kids,” said organizer Pam Wallace. “All supplies are donated to the local boards of education who work closely with guidance counselors to ensure the supplies are donated to kids with the greatest need.

“Without these supplies that are so generously donated some of our kids would not be able to have a successful school year. Each donation, no matter how small it may seem, makes a huge difference,” she said.
